Odisha Handloom Berhampuri Double Pallu Silk saree

Berhampuri is world famous for the “Phoda Kumbha” technique. Berhampur is also known as the “silk city” for its sarees and the 'jodas' (dhoti and chaddar). This weave requires two weavers to continuously work on the shuttle to make the finished product. As history goes, this weaving was introduced in this cluster in the 14th century. Over centuries, this cluster also got innovative in its designs and introduced tie-n-dye (also known as ikat or bandha). Each piece has a rich, ceremonial look, apt for wedding, festivals or special occasions. This weave has a GI tag.
